HUIA WITH STATUE OF GIRL (Collection of artist)
This symbolic work is about the loss in New Zealand of the Huia. The coveted tail feathers and the females one beak made this bird quite distinct.

HUIA WITH CHAIR AND CLOCK (SOLD)
Huia were driven to extinction in New Zealand due to over-hunting, forest clearance, and introduced pests. The white-tipped tail feathers were a revered taonga (treasure) for Māori. © Ros Lowrey

A comment on this once thought extinct, NZ bird, which was famously rediscovered in 1948 high in the tussock grasslands of the remote Murchison Mountains, above Lake Te Anau, Fiordland.
